There’s no easy way to say it. How do you tell someone that their breath smells without causing tension in your relationship? I wish I could give you a one-size-fits all solution, but nothing is universal. Each person is unique, so you have to find a solution based on the individual. You have to extensively evaluate how to proceed because there is no foolproof method to tell someone that they have bad breath.
Think of your significant other’s personality. How would they want to be told? If they are okay with brutal honesty, then you can go ahead and tell them. However, I do implore you to exercise caution. Even the people who seem the toughest still have feelings. You never know if this is a sensitive subject for them.
If your significant other is on the more sensitive side, think of how you would want to be told. I recommend starting off by mentioning how much you care about them, and how you don’t want this to cause a rift in your relationship. Then proceed to explain how it has already started to separate you from them. As cliché as it sounds, communication is key to every relationship. How you communicate and what you communicate can make or break any relationship. Lack of proper communication creates the cracks in the foundation, and you can’t build anything on a weak foundation.
Bad breath ends relationships more often than you would think. If a relationship is truly special, then it’s worth fighting for. It’s a difficult conversation to have, but it’s one that should be had. If you do decide to tell your significant others, we want to know how you did it.
