Let’s be honest with ourselves for one minute. We can all do a lot better when it comes to our diets. As someone who attended college once upon a time, I still practice some alarming dietary habits. Instant noodles should no longer take up more than half of my pantry, but they do. Coffee is not a replacement for meals, yet I’ve had it for lunch two days in a row. On that note, I also shouldn’t have more caffeine pumping through my veins than blood.
What you put in your body affects more than just your weight. It can increase cholesterol, which is going to lead to a whole host of other problems. It also affects how your breath smells. Food can strengthen or weaken your organs. I know nothing is ever going to taste as good as late-night Taco Bell and replacing that with a quinoa bowl sounds cruel and unusual, but we shouldn’t ignore the benefits of eating healthy.
Diets to Try
Instead of coffee in the morning, go for a green tea. You can get creative with it. I love iced green tea with a healthy squeeze of lemon juice and tiny helping of honey. I’m not a big fan of hot drinks, so I usually ice it. Green tea contains antioxidants to fight of bacteria, and it’s refreshing. I’ll admit that it is an acquired taste, so this might not be for everyone.
I need to add more fruits and veggies in my diet. Our daily diets should look like a rainbow, and that doesn’t mean eating a rainbow bagel from your local hipster bakery. Apples and pears both produce saliva, which helps restore the natural ecology of the mouth. Oranges, melons, and berries are all great sources of vitamin C.
The most common piece of advice you’ll get is to drink more water, and this is one most of us will ignore. Water hydrates your skin and rinses out toxins. Our immune system can also get a boost thanks to water. Water is a superhero in its own way, and we should all show water a little more appreciation. You can get creative with how you drink your water. Try infusing it with fruits. Let me know some of your tricks and tips to eating healthier! As always, post in the comments if there’s a topic you want me to cover!
